his estate's name comes from two different sources. Balestard was a canon at the Collegiate Church in Saint-Émilion and La Tonnelle is the
name of a very old stone tower that still stands in the middle of the vines.
The château's reputation goes back a very long way. François Villon mentioned
it in a 15th century poem that is reproduced on the label.
