he vines are in an excellently location, on top of a clay-limestone slope quite close to the medieval village of Saint-Émilion. Only premium grape varieties are grown: 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.
The wine is fermented the traditional way and aged in oak barrels, half of which are new each year.
Balestard la Tonnelle is a full-bodied and exquisitely elegant wine, one of the finest grands crus in Saint-Émilion .
